Combating Indoor Allergens

dust miteWhen you’re constantly sneezing indoors, waking up with itchy eyes, or finding yourself congested often, it’s time to make some changes.  The sources of your woes are indoor allergens from pets, dust, and plants.  In rare cases allergens can come from other sources indoors, but these are by far the most common.  To relieve your allergies begin by addressing the source of allergens, especially around the bed.  Don’t allow pets in the area you sleep.  You will also want to vacuum and dust around your bed and your whole house regularly.  A home air purifier will ensure you have a much more restful sleep, and will remove allergens and pollutants from the rest of the house as well.

Taking these simple steps should dramatically reduce allergy symptoms, and allow for a more peaceful and relaxing home life.

Ecoquest air purifiersHaving an air purifier in your home can improve the quality of your sleep, and remove pollutants that can cause congestion and even illness.  But when purchasing an air purifier, is it better to buy an ionic air purifier, or a traditional air purifier?  The difference between the two is in how they remove pollutants from the air.  A traditional air purifier uses fans to absorb pollutants, and filters to weed out pollutants, which works great, but you have to replace the filters, and if you don’t, you put yourself at risk.  The ionic air purifier uses an amazing technology that relies on electrostatic plates applying a charge to the pollutants in the atmosphere.  When the charged particles pass through the unit, they are statically attracted to the collector blades inside the air purifier, and can later be wiped off and disposed.

In terms of cost, the ionic air purifier is more than a traditional air purifier, but because it doesn’t require filters, it can be more cost effective over a long period of time.

Dissolving Bad Smells

commercial air purifierWhen I left the house for a couple days to visit some friends, I came back and upon entering, immediately noticed an obnoxious smell.  Apparently my cat was unhappy that I had left, and had chosen to barf on the carpet right in front of the door.  The smell was overpowering, and after cleaning up the mess, it just lingered and wouldn’t go away.  The next day another friend of mine came over and commented on the smell, I told him I couldn’t make it go away, but then he offered to let me borrow his ozone blaster.  I didn’t know what that was, but he said it would get out the smell.  I got it to the house, turned it on, and a few hours later, the smell was gone.  I had no idea something like an air purifier could remove powerful odors.

After a few weeks I had used his ozone blaster on the musty smell in the garage, and even got the smoky smell out of my camping tent.  I didn’t want to give it back.

What Is Ionic Air Purification?

ionic air purifiers

Instead of relying on fans to move air through filters, ionic air purifiers release a stream of ions that electrify dust, dander, smoke, and pollen.  Airborne pollutant particles respond by picking up the negative charge and become attracted to the positively charged collection plates inside the machine.  Most ionic air purifiers run silently, unless they are designed to suck in the charged particles (which can stick to TV screens, tables, and other charged surfaces)—usually, there are no motors, moving parts or fans involved, and no filters to replace.

Ionic air purifiers do release ozone—about as much as a busy photocopy machine in an office.  This in itself is a source of controversy for some, though ozone is thought by many to be one of the most powerful oxidants and germicides in existence.
